Smugglers is situated in Vilanculos and offers comfortable, clean mid-range accommodation in a refreshing oasis of palm trees and lush gardens.
Vilanculos is a stepping-stone to the 3 main islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago (Bazaruto, Benguerra and Magaruque) and truly the only way to discover Mozambique and it's beautiful and untouched coastline.

Vilanculos / vilankulos lies 550km from the Zimbabwean Border and 800km from the South African Border. 4 x 4 vehicles are an added advantage when driving, however there are daily flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos. Flying time is only 2 hours 15 minutes and airport transfers can be arranged. (Smugglers is situated 8 km from the Vilanculos airport.)
Smugglers is situated in Vilanculos (opposite the dhow harbour) and offers comfortable, clean mid-range accommodation in a refreshing oasis of palm trees and lush gardens. We offer 12 rooms: 10 twin bed rooms, with shared ablutions and 2 double en-suite rooms. Each room has mosquito nets and fans. A laundry service is available and safe, secure parking is offered. Our three swimming pools (one kiddies pool) provide family entertainment and relaxing sun tanning.
Smugglers Sports Bar (open 10am till 2am daily) and Restaurant (open 8am to 9.30pm daily) is a great place to relax and unwind. Our weekly pool competitions test the skills of all levels of players. Weekly volleyball matches provide lots of fun!

SMUGGLERS SPORTS BAR
Our Sports Bar offers the passer-by cold beverages in a relaxing, cool environment.
We offer satellite T.V. – which ensures that, whilst on holiday, you do not miss the major sporting events.
We host two pool competitions per week – a singles competition on Wednesday nights and a doubles competition on Friday nights. Winner takes all!
We play music for all ages and we are the place to party in Vilankulo!
Tuesdays and Thursdays are volleyball nights on our floodlit court - situated directly in front of the bar.

Smugglers Bar Restaurant offers tasty ‘pub’ meals - at affordable prices - in a cool, clean, relaxing atmosphere.
Our breakfasts are a great start to the day!
We serve a selection of ‘daily fresh’ seafood (prawns, calamari, fish and crab) - together with steak and chicken. Our ‘Crumbed Calamari’ and burger selection are a definite must!
We offer comfortable, clean, affordable accommodation - set in a lush garden oasis.
We are centrally located near the Vilankulo harbour and are a ‘stones throw’ from the sea.
Our rooms are comfortably appointed - mosquito nets and fans are provided.

The ‘braai / barbeque’ area – positioned in the accommodation complex, is a great ‘get together’ spot!
For those wishing to exercise, our gym offers an all in one gym machine – with a great sea view!

DHOW TRIPS
Sail on a traditional – style dhow (complete with motor!) to one of the beautiful Bazaruto islands. Enjoy the multi-coloured marine life whilst snorkeling - or suntan on one of our pristine sandy beaches, whilst lunch is freshly prepared.
SNORKELLING / SCUBA DIVING
Take a trip to ‘Two Mile Reef’ - one of the best dive sites in Southern Africa. The coral reefs of the Archipelago support one of the ‘most diverse and least disturbed’ marine populations in the West Indian Ocean. The shallow waters between the islands are home to the rare, mystical Dugong.
DEEP SEA FISHING
Game fish and all other major billfish abound in the waters of the Archipelago. Don’t let these be the ones that ‘get away’!
CALAMARI FISHING
Try your hand at landing one of these ‘tentacled’ creatures and try to avoid being sprayed with ink! This activity provides fun for the entire family!
PARASAILING, WINDSURFING, WATER SKIING AND TUBING

VISAS
Any person planning to visit Mocambique requires a valid passport and visa.
Visas can be obtained from any Mocambican Embassy or Consulate and from any of the following border posts: Maputo airport, Ressano Garcia (border with South Africa), Namaacha (border with Swaziland), Vilankulo Airport, Beira Airport, Machipanda (border with Zimbabwe), Zobue (border with Malawi) and Pemba Airport.
Visa application must include: valid passport, 2 recent photographs and completed application form.
Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months AFTER travel to Mocambique and should contain 2 un-used pages.
Parents can no longer travel with their children on their passports.

FOREIGN VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
All foreign registered vehicles should display a sticker on the rear end of the vehicle, denoting the country of registration, e.g: ZW – Zimbabwe, ZA – South Africa. When towing a trailer, this sticker should be on the rear end of the trailer.
Towing a trailer requires the display of a blue and yellow (or red reflective) triangle on the front end of the vehicle and the rear end of the trailer.
Drivers must carry the following documents: identification, driver’s licence, car registration, insurance and applicable TIP.
Seat belts are compulsory.
Driving is on the left.
CUSTOMS
Personal items are not subject to tax.
Custom free allowance is R200, 00 or US$50, 00.
Ensure that any transaction with Customs is receipted.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
Visitors must carry certification of vaccination against Yellow Fever.
Malaria precautions should be taken.

CLIMATE
The rainy season is between October and April. Temperatures range between 27 and 29 degrees.
The dry season is between May and September. Temperatures range from 18 to 20 degrees. Warm clothing is advisable at this time of the year.
